The half marathon sans taper

Three more sleeps until the Chilly half marathon. I skipped my hill run yesterday because I was physically and mentally exhausted. I also haven't been sleeping that well. I did 8 km this morning on the treadmill, and am planning to head outside for a short (5-6km) run to prepare myself for running in the cold on Sunday. This is the first time that I will be running a half marathon without a formal taper. This is the first time that I am running a half marathon that is NOT my goal race, but merely a stepping stone to the full marathon. Yes, I truly feel like a runner now!

The last time I ran a half (Toronto), I pushed hard and was incredible pain for almost a week afterwards. I am telling myself not to push too hard on Sunday, because I will be right back into training 2 days afterwards. I will be running 10 and 1's for the first time. I will not push too hard...I will NOT push too hard! Cliff promised me some time ago that he would run this race with me. He waited until the last minute to register and it was sold out, so he was put on the waiting list. Luckily for him, people have cancelled and now he is in. Luckily for him, because he would have gotten in a lot of trouble for breaking his promise :P

Good luck with the half-marathon, anners! I did a "stepping-stone" half a couple weeks ago, too (no taper, less recovery)-- it was weird not to race it full out, but it gave me a good marathon-practice experience. Hope you get the same...
