A surprising 10k

RR marathon schedule called for a 10k run today. When I woke up this morning, my body told me that it wasn't going to happen. The BBQ chicken and potato wedges that I ate for dinner last night and leftovers for lunch today probably did not help my cause. I dragged myself onto the treadmill after work and started running very slowly. I felt awful. I thought I would be lucky to run 5k. I took a few walking breaks. It took me about 38min to run 5k, and decided to trod on for a bit longer. After I hit 45...50...60min, I sped up. I was going to finish the 10k. For the last 2k or so, I decided to just give'er. I went full out and finished strong and feeling good. Weird, huh?

It made me wonder about my pre-run eating habits. I tend to scarf down an energy bar 15min before I start running. I've learned that if I don't eat anything before I run, I tend to get cramps. But since I am usually sluggish for the first 20 min (or like today, first 45min), perhaps I should be taking my energy bar 45min to 1hr before my run. It won't work for my early morning runs since I just eat and head out the door, but I can try it for the afternoon workouts.

I need to find some pics to post...all text entries are kind of dull, aren't they? ;)
